Weezer's Feature Film Is Finished and Headed for 2027 — With Keanu Reeves Attached
Weezer have already filmed their debut feature film, and according to rhythm guitarist Brian Bell, fans will see it in 2027. Bell let the detail slip at the Los Angeles premiere of the Nimrods movie, in conversation with ALT 98.7. "We already have filmed a movie," he said. "Although I'm not supposed to talk about it, but, yes, it's in the can and it's gonna be incredible. We'll see it in 2027." Billboard
Bell is not the only band member to use that exact phrase. Frontman Rivers Cuomo told the Coachella crowd in spring 2025 that the band had "been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks," and Stereogum reports that Cuomo separately confirmed the film is "in the can." Stereogum

Clues had been circulating since that Coachella appearance. Fans shared a photo on X of a "Notice of Filming" in Los Angeles for a scripted feature film titled Weezer: Security Threat, filed under the production company Watch Me Unravel LLC — a name lifted from the lyrics of "The Sweater Song," a track from the band's 1994 debut. The notice listed a three-day shoot from April 7–9 that would involve simulated bullet effects and atmospheric smoke. Billboard
Around the same time, members of the Weezer fan club were reportedly invited to a private, filmed merchandise signing for a select group of fans tied to the production. Participants were required to sign a release and a non-disclosure agreement, with a shoot date of April 21, 2025. Billboard
This is not frontman Rivers Cuomo's first brush with screenwriting. In 2015, he was developing a Fox comedy series called DeTour, loosely based on his own experience of leaving rock stardom to attend university. The pilot was filmed but never picked up; Cuomo later told Vulture that the episode was "completely finished" but "could not be shown to anybody." The premise drew on real life: Cuomo graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Harvard University in 2006, after taking classes there intermittently for more than a decade. Weezer's latest self-titled album — which fans have taken to calling "The Gold Album" for its gilded cover — is due for release on August 21, 2026.
