Football Manager 27 will be free to play on PC and Mac for five days, the first time the series has offered a free period. Eurogamer reported the plan, which developer Sports Interactive confirmed in its official news posts.

The free period starts at 6pm GMT on 29 October 2026 and runs until 3 November, when the launch preview begins. Every game mode is available during the free period, according to Football Manager's official news post. Saves made during the free period carry over into the full game, including for players on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft's subscription service for games.

The full game launches on 10 November 2026. Pre-orders open alongside the free period, with a 10 percent discount and access to the launch preview. The launch preview is an early version of the game, and it is free on Steam, Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass with no extra sign-up.

Sports Interactive's press release says that making an annual sports title free to play, with all game modes included, is believed to be an industry first. An annual title is a game that is updated and sold again each year, with new squads and rules.

On 10 November, the game also arrives on other platforms. The PC launch is on Steam, Epic Games and the Xbox PC app. The console version, for Xbox and PS5, includes Game Pass Console subscribers. A mobile version, FM27 Mobile, is listed on Netflix. A touch-controlled version, FM27 Touch, launches on Apple Arcade, Apple's subscription games service, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Its saves can carry over from earlier titles through cloud progression across devices.

Players will see several changes. Tactical Tweaks add to the touchline shouts system, which returns from earlier games, and the interface has been improved. The match-day atmosphere now covers the crowd, stadiums and weather. Cup Draws and Transfer Deadline Day also return, reworked for this edition.

The game adds new licensed content too. The Arkema Première Ligue, France's women's top division, is fully licensed under a new partnership with the French Football Federation. That includes official club logos, kits and player photos. Football Manager has also extended its partnership with Brighton & Hove Albion for an eighth successive season, with branding at the American Express Stadium through 2026/27.

The series has had a rocky recent run. Sports Interactive cancelled Football Manager 25 while it moved the series from its own internal engine, the software that runs the game, to Unity, a widely used third-party engine. On Steam, Football Manager 26 holds a "Mostly Negative" user score almost a year after its launch.

For players, the free period is a chance to try the game before buying. Anyone who plays during the five days keeps their progress, and the full game picks it up on launch day.
