Aspyr, the studio that specialises in ports and remasters, has announced Shrek 2 Remastered for November 10, 2026. The game will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch and PC. The date falls nine days before Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6.

The announcement came through a trailer that pokes fun at the GTA 6 marketing, copying its look and its tone. The reveal was tied to the ID@Xbox x IGN Showcase on October 20, 2026, where Xbox's official news blog confirmed the November 10 Xbox Series X|S date.

A remaster is a rebuilt version of an older game, usually with sharper graphics and fixes for modern hardware. The original Shrek 2 came out in 2004 on PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox, and sold more than 4 million units. On those consoles, the player led a team of four characters. The PC version was a single-player 3D platformer, so this release mixes the two designs.

Aspyr says the new version has improved textures, a cleaner interface and 4K resolution on systems that support it. It also adds a Photo mode and a Cheats Menu. Up to four players can join in co-op, either on the same screen, online, or both. Nintendo's US store describes the Switch version with 4K resolution, cutscenes and four-player couch co-op.

Pre-orders are open, and the Xbox blog says Game Pass members can take up to 20% off, while non-members get 10% off. Pre-orders run through November 9, 2026, according to the announce trailer. A Game Pass subscription lets members play a catalogue of games for a monthly fee, and the discount is one of its perks.

The Shrek franchise has a bigger date change to deal with, too. Shrek 5 was first set for July 2026, then moved to December 2026. It is now scheduled for June 30, 2027. Illumination's Minions & Monsters took the summer 2026 release slot that Shrek 5 had first held. No reason for the latest move was given.

For players, the main news is simple. Shrek 2 is coming back on five platforms, with co-op for four, a little over three weeks from the announcement. Anyone who wants to play it on day one can pre-order before November 9.
