Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Lands October 22 With a Free Edgerunners Tie-In
CD Projekt Red is releasing a free update to Cyberpunk 2077 on October 22, and it comes with a new quest linked to the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The update, called the Edgerunners 2 Update or Update 2.5, is scheduled to go live on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that day, according to CD Projekt Red's press site. Players on Nintendo Switch 2 are due to receive it a few days later.
The studio says the update adds cyberware customisation, meaning the implants and augmentations characters fit into their bodies in the game's city. It also brings a new dual-wielding playstyle, so players can fight with a weapon in each hand. The update is free, as CD Projekt Red's news post confirms.
The new quest is a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, and several voice actors from the show will reprise their roles in it. GameSpot reported the casting details. The studio did not give many details about its larger upgrades when it announced the update.
Before the announcement, leaks suggested the update would also add field-of-view settings on PS5 and Xbox, which control how much of the scene is visible on screen. The leaks also pointed to support for mods from Mod.io, a mod hosting service. CD Projekt Red has not confirmed either feature in its announcement.
Those who want a preview can tune in to a livestream on October 21 at 5 PM CEST. The studio's site promotes it as a REDstreams event, where viewers can see what is coming to the game on October 22. The Cyberpunk 2077 X account also posted about the update on October 20.
Cyberpunk 2077 first launched in 2020, and the studio has kept adding updates since. Update 2.5 is the latest of those, and its release date is now set.
