Chris Rock's film Misty Green will arrive on Netflix on Nov. 9, Deadline reported on Oct. 21, 2026.

The film is still in cinemas. It made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is playing in limited theatres across the United States. A24 distributes it, which means the studio handles its release in cinemas. Netflix's date marks the point where the film moves from the big screen to the streaming service, for viewers at home.

Rock wrote, directed and produced the film, and it is his first time behind the camera in 12 years. It is also his fourth narrative feature, according to Deadline's coverage of the 2026 Critics Choice honorees. That coverage also says he is set to receive the Director Award at the 2026 Critics Choice Celebration of Black Cinema & Television for the film.

The cast is led by Rosalind Eleazar, who plays Misty, a once-promising actress trying to get a second act. Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick and Topher Grace also appear. Eleazar has picked up a run of festival honours for the role, including a Toronto International Film Festival Tribute Award and a Hamptons Film Festival Breakthrough Performer Award. Newport Film Festival and Variety named her one of their "10 Actors to Watch," and she will receive a Breakthrough Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.

Rock first set the project in motion in late 2024. Deadline reported at that time that he would direct and star in the feature, based on an original script he wrote. The film is produced by Rock, David Worthen Brooks, Victoria Thomas, and Peter Rice, who is set to take over as Netflix's content chief.

Why Netflix? Deadline ties the deal to Rock's long relationship with the streamer, which includes several of his stand-up comedy specials. The same report notes that A24 has a pay-one output deal with HBO Max, a pact that sends a distributor's films to one pay-TV service.

For viewers, the change is simple. Anyone who has not made it to a cinema can wait for the Nov. 9 streaming date. Anyone who wants to see it on a big screen has until then, while the limited run continues.
