Sara Bareilles says she is still holding out for a Girls5eva movie, and she says her co-stars feel the same way. She made the comments on The Zach Sang Show, as Deadline reported on 22 October 2026.

Girls5eva is a musical comedy about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the late 1990s. Its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. Bareilles played Dawn Solano in the show, alongside Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Ashley Park. Meredith Scardino created it, and Tina Fey produced it.

The series ran for three seasons, from 2021 to 2024. It began on Peacock. Netflix later rescued it from cancellation at Peacock, as Variety reported in 2024. In December 2024, Netflix said there would be no fourth season, according to Deadline.

Bareilles was asked about a film and gave a clear answer. She said she would do one "in a heartbeat." She also said she would do the show "until I was dead in the ground." Asked about the rest of the cast, she said "100 percent."

The lack of a fourth season is where her comments start. "They just stopped paying us to do it," she said. She added that she would make a movie for very little money. She described what she wants as a "Sex and the City style movie, like a Girls5eva film." In a January 2026 interview with The Ankler, she had already suggested that fans could campaign to bring the project about.

A film of this kind would need a studio or streaming service willing to pay the cast and crew again. Her comments do not name one. For now, the idea is a hope the cast has voiced in public, not a project with a date.

Bareilles is also a singer and songwriter, and fans have followed her career well beyond the show. Her latest remarks keep the Girls5eva name in the conversation, more than two years after the final season aired.
