Sam Heughan Joins Viola Davis in Paramount+ Thriller Ascent

Sam Heughan is set to star opposite Viola Davis in Ascent, a new series for Paramount+, the streaming service. Deadline reported the casting on 22 October 2026.
Heughan will play Conal, a top agent at Ascent Ventures. Davis plays Catriona, an elite corporate fixer. Her estranged daughter is in danger.
The show is billed as a character-driven thriller, meaning the people at its centre carry the story. It is set in the world of global corporate crisis and damage control, the work of repairing a company's reputation after something goes badly wrong.
John Logan created the series and serves as its showrunner, the lead writer who runs the day-to-day creative work, and as an executive producer. An executive producer is a senior figure who oversees a production from the top. Michael Aguilar also executive produces, alongside Davis and Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions. Paramount Television Studios is making the series.
The show was scheduled to shoot in Los Angeles next year, according to the same Deadline report. Filming on a series of this kind means months of work for a large crew, from camera and lighting teams to set builders and costume makers, all based in one city.
For viewers, the news is an early step rather than a release date. No premiere window has been reported in the coverage so far. What the announcement does confirm is the lead casting, and that the production has a plan to film in Los Angeles.
