Paramount+ has greenlit Ascent, a thriller series starring Viola Davis as a corporate fixer forced to turn her dangerous skills against the people she once protected, created and run by John Logan. The order is straight-to-series, meaning no pilot is shot first — the platform has committed to a full season before cameras roll. Deadline

Davis plays Catriona Vail, an elite operator in the world of global corporate crisis and damage control — the person companies call when a scandal threatens to bring them down. When her estranged daughter is put in danger, Vail turns the same ruthless playbook she uses for clients toward getting her child back.

John Logan created the series and will serve as showrunner, the top creative authority on a television production. Logan is a screenwriter best known in television for Showtime's Penny Dreadful and its spinoff Penny Dreadful: City of Angels; Ascent is only his second TV series. In film, he most recently wrote Michael, the biopic that crossed $1 billion at the box office to become the highest-grossing biopic ever made. Deadline

For Davis, this is a return to series television — and only her second time leading a TV show. Her first was as Annalise Keating on ABC's How To Get Away With Murder, a role that won her an Emmy in 2015.

The producing team pairs Logan with Michael Aguilar as executive producers, alongside Davis and Julius Tennon through their company JuVee Productions. Paramount Television Studios is the studio behind the series.

Production is slated to begin in Los Angeles in 2027, with filming expected to take place on the Paramount lot. Deadline
