Amazon MGM Studios is developing a romantic drama called Vineyard Haven, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reported the project on 22 October 2026.

The story begins with two teenagers who share a memorable summer on Martha's Vineyard, the island off the coast of Massachusetts. They do not manage to reunite in the summers that follow. Nearly a decade later, they meet again. He is an NBA star, the professional basketball league in the United States, who returns to the island to deal with an injury. She has come home to recover from a difficult marriage.

Nkechi Okoro Carroll is writing the script and serving as an executive producer. She is best known to television audiences as the showrunner, the writer who runs a series day to day, of The CW's All American, which ran for eight seasons. She also created and showran All American: Homecoming and NBC's Found, and she was a co-executive producer on The Resident and Rosewood. The Hollywood Reporter notes that she has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, a multi-year arrangement to develop projects for the studio's TV arm.

The producers are Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Michael McGrath, working through Berlanti Schechter Films. Berlanti and Carroll have worked together before. In 2018, the trade reported that the two had reteamed for a criminal justice drama at ABC, and Berlanti's company also produced Carroll's missing-person drama Found, which Deadline reported in 2022 was ordered to pilot at NBC.

Berlanti Schechter's current slate is large and spans several platforms. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company is making the Netflix thriller An Innocent Girl, starring Kerry Washington, James Marsden, Colman Domingo and Chloe East. It is also producing Red, White & Royal Wedding for Amazon MGM, a sequel that brings back Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez. Separately, Deadline reported in September that Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are producing the Amazon MGM dark comedy Hang the Decorators.

What makes this one a story for the wider public is how early it sits in the process. Development is the stage where a studio pays for a script, lines up a writer and producers, and decides whether a project is worth pursuing. Many projects in development never reach a cinema or a streaming service. Others take years to reach an audience. For now, Vineyard Haven is a romantic drama with a writer, a producing team and a studio behind it, and a clear idea of its two central characters.

Carroll's television background also gives the project a particular shape. Her shows have followed families, friendships and careers across several seasons, and the film's premise, two people who come back to the same place years later, is built on the kind of history that a long-running series has room to explore. Whether that history makes it to the screen is a decision still ahead.
