The Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) has said she is counting down to half-term, when all three of her children will be home from school. Speaking on a visit to Norfolk on Thursday 22 October, she told the magazine Hello!: "My children break up tomorrow, and I can't wait to have them home."

Half-term is a short break in the middle of the autumn term. The children attend two different schools, so their breaks start at different times and last different lengths.

Prince George, 13, is at Eton College. He was due to leave school on Friday 23 October for what Eton calls a "long leave", a two-week break. Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, attend Lambrook School. Their half-term break also lasts a fortnight, and they were due to start it from the same date.

The Princess also said she has missed George while he has been away at Eton. She added that her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are excited about the break.

Her day began at The Treehouse hospice in Ipswich. She then visited Cafe 98 in Norfolk, a joint charity shop and cafe run by East Anglia's Children's Hospices. The Princess is the charity's patron, a title for a supporter who lends their name and profile to its work rather than running it day to day.

Most of the detail in her remarks was about family life. Her comments were personal rather than about any official announcement, and she did not say what the family planned to do during the holiday.

For parents across the country, the late-October break is a familiar pause in the school year. For the Princess, it means a fortnight with her children in one place after weeks apart.
