Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" Gets a Dance Version With CYRIL and Tones And I

Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" is getting a dance version, and it is due out on October 23 via Spinnin' Records. The new recording pairs Lauper's original with production from CYRIL, with Tones And I singing the chorus. Billboard broke the news on October 22.
The two newer artists are Australian. Tones And I's real name is Toni Watson. CYRIL is Cyril Riley, who is based in Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia. Producers shape a track's sound in the studio, so CYRIL's role is the beats and arrangement that turn a ballad into something built for the dance floor.
Lauper's own vocals and the song's opening guitar strums stay in place over the new production. That means listeners hear the original singer at the start of the track before the rework takes over.
The original is a well-known chart record. Lauper's "Time After Time" spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the American weekly singles chart that ranks songs by sales, radio airplay and streaming.
Spinnin' Records began building interest on TikTok on October 20, posting a teaser that tagged Cyril Riley. The label's release is also in the UK. The Official Charts Company, which compiles the British charts, lists "TIME AFTER TIME" by "CYNDI LAUPER/CYRIL/TONES AND I" on its new-releases page for the week of October 23.
Cover versions and reworks of older hits are common, but they still need the permission of the people who wrote the original. This release credits all three artists, so each name appears on the listing.
