BriskPace Studios Launches New-Formats Label With an Orangutan Comedy

BriskPace Studios has launched a new label, BriskPace Unlimited, and its first series is a true-crime comedy about an imprisoned orangutan with political ambitions. Deadline broke the news as an exclusive on 23 October 2026.
The series is called The Light and Hard Times of Lucky Briscoe. Al Munteanu created it and is its creator and executive producer. He also co-directs it with Tom Paton, the founder of AiMation, the animation company that co-produces the show.
Jason Hazeley is the showrunner, meaning he leads the writing team and oversees the scripts from day to day. Joe Markham is also a writer on the series.
The pilot, the first episode made to show what a series could look like, is finished. Deadline reports that it uses AI-generated imagery and music, and that a human creative team directed the work. Munteanu gave a first look at the show during his keynote at MIA, the international audiovisual market held in Rome.
BriskPace Unlimited says it will focus on three kinds of work. The first is AI-native productions, meaning shows built around artificial intelligence tools from the start. The second is micro-dramas, which are short, serialised episodes often watched on a phone. The third is creator-led formats, shows developed around online creators.
The label already has a stake in several companies. It holds a minority stake in AiMation, which means it owns part of that company without controlling it. It is also a seed investor, an early-stage backer, alongside Groupe M6 in Sweetz, a French micro-drama app made by the AI studio Nation and app publisher Kovalee. It is an investor too in Snips, an Israel-based platform that cuts full-length films and TV shows into vertical micro-episodes.
BriskPace Studios was launched in 2025 by Munteanu and a team from his earlier company, SquareOne Productions. The company was rebranded from SquareOne that year. Munteanu stepped down as CEO of Vuelta Germany to start it, according to Variety and Deadline reports from April 2025.
The company's website lists Munteanu as founder and CEO. André Druskeit is CFO, Rob Van Norden is head of production, and Christian Field is development and production executive. BriskPace Studios is headquartered in Munich and has staff in London and Los Angeles.
The label's first show is now finished. Whether and where it will be broadcast or streamed has not been announced.
