Werewolf Thriller "The Cycle" Arrives on Shudder

Horror fans now have a new werewolf film to watch at home. "The Cycle" is streaming on Shudder, the horror service owned by AMC Networks, and AMC's programming schedule lists it for October 23, 2026.
The film opens the way a detective show might. According to AMC's synopsis, it begins when police find a corpse beside a horrific crime scene. From there it follows the investigation, and the story is built as a mystery rather than a monster movie at first.
Director Jordan Downey says that choice was deliberate. He describes the film as a crime mystery and a police procedural, a genre where the audience follows investigators piece by piece. The supernatural element stays hidden for most of the running time. The creature only moves to the front in the third act, when the film shifts into creature-feature mode, as Variety reports.
Downey directed the film and co-wrote it with Kevin Stewart. The two men came up with the central idea while sketching a TV treatment, a pitch document for a television series, for their 2018 film "The Head Hunter." Their core concept is a werewolf that keeps transforming after it dies.
Deborah Ann Woll plays Meg, and Jeffrey Donovan plays Marks. Both sit at the centre of the investigation, according to Variety's cast details.
AMC Networks labels "The Cycle" a Shudder Original Film. That means the service commissioned or financed the film for its own platform, rather than acquiring it from another studio or distributor. Shudder releases its originals directly to subscribers, so the film does not need a cinema run to reach an audience.
For viewers, the appeal is the blend. Anyone who likes a slow-burn detective story can start with the case, and those waiting for the monster will get it later. Shudder's October slate, which AMC calls "Season of Screams," was built around this kind of seasonal horror, and "The Cycle" is one of its entries.
