Sisters Erin Foster and Sara Foster are developing a TV series based on Sarah MacLean's novel These Summer Storms for Hulu, the streaming service, according to Deadline, reported on 24 October 2026.

"In development" means the project is being prepared. It is not yet confirmed as a show that will air, so viewers should not expect a premiere date yet. Many projects at this stage never reach screens, while others go on to be ordered.

The series is being developed through 20th Television, the studio behind it. Melanie Marnich is writing the adaptation. Erin and Sara Foster's company, Fatigue Sisters, has an overall deal at 20th Television, a long-term arrangement that keeps their projects with that studio.

The executive producers listed are Erin Foster, Sara Foster through Fatigue Sisters, Oly Obst through 3 Arts, and Sarah MacLean, the novelist herself. An executive producer is a senior creative role that oversees a show from behind the scenes, often shaping its story and approving who works on it.

The book is a 2025 novel. It follows Alice Storm, who goes back to her family's private island off the coast of Rhode Island after the death of her father. According to MacLean's website, These Summer Storms is her first contemporary novel, meaning it is set in the present day rather than in a historical period. Her earlier books were historical romances.

Adapting a novel for television usually means building a full season's worth of episodes from a story that may have been told in a few hundred pages. Writers decide which characters to expand, what to add, and how to pace the story across many hours. A writer's room, the team of writers who plot and draft scripts together, often does much of that work.

For readers of the book, the news means the story has a path to the screen. For anyone who has never picked it up, the series is the first chance to meet Alice and her island without reading a page. For now, the next step is for Hulu to decide whether to order episodes.
