Mass Effect Petition Tops 187,000 Signatures After BioWare Closure
A petition calling for the Mass Effect series to keep going has passed 187,000 signatures, Eurogamer reported on 25 October 2026. The petition, titled #SaveMassEffect, was started by Joe Smith on the day BioWare, the studio behind the series, closed.
BioWare is owned by Electronic Arts (EA), the publisher. The petition asks for Mass Effect to keep being developed with proper funding, staffing and time. It also suggests EA could license the Mass Effect intellectual property (IP), meaning the rights to the characters, world and story, to another studio. A licence would let a different team make Mass Effect games.
Momentum came quickly. IGN reported on 23 October 2026 that the petition had reached 52,783 signatures within days of the closure. It had grown past 187,000 by 25 October.
The series has a history of promises about its future. On 7 November 2025, at its N7 Day fan event, BioWare said that the next Mass Effect game was in development and that EA and BioWare remained committed to telling more Mass Effect stories.
A petition asks for a change; it does not change a studio's plans on its own. Fans are asking EA and BioWare to answer a simple question: what happens to Mass Effect next? For now, the signatures are the clearest measure of how many people want an answer.
