Players who want to explore Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 without other people in the way have started a petition asking for it.

The game is live worldwide. Its DMZ mode is an extraction shooter, a type of game where players drop into a map, gather loot and try to escape alive. Call of Duty's website says DMZ is set in Hajin, and that players can go in solo or with a squad.

The petition asks developer Infinity Ward for a PvE-only version of the mode. PvE, short for player versus environment, means fighting computer-controlled enemies rather than other players. According to Eurogamer, the petition had 331 signatures at the time of its reporting on 26 October 2026. Outside the single-player campaign, Modern Warfare 4 has no purely PvE modes, the outlet reported.

Infinity Ward has responded to the request. It said DMZ remains a purely PvPvE experience, which mixes player-versus-player fights with battles against computer enemies. A DMZ PvE option that appeared briefly was a developer-only playlist, the studio clarified.

The mode has more layers than the petition's focus suggests. Story Missions give the mode a narrative thread, and Dynamic Operations add changing objectives, according to a June 2026 developer blog post. Players start with two Active Duty Operator slots, the spaces for the soldiers they can bring into a run. A third slot unlocks as their DMZ level rises, according to a guide published in October 2026.

Access is another point of difference. Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase and is not on Game Pass, Microsoft's subscription service, at launch. Pre-orders have also gone live on Nintendo Switch 2.

The game launched with 20 multiplayer maps. The petition is the clearest sign so far that some players want DMZ to work differently, and it is still a request, not a change to the game.
