Channel 4 has released a trailer for I Am Helen, a new drama starring Nicola Coughlan, with Joe Cole as her co-star.

The show is a two-parter, meaning it is told across two episodes of 60 minutes each. Coughlan and the series creator Dominic Savage worked together to shape it. Savage is a BAFTA-winning writer, producer and director, and he created the I Am anthology, a run of single-title dramas that each focus on a different woman's story.

The earlier entries were no less starry. Kate Winslet won a BAFTA for I Am Ruth, and the series has also featured Letitia Wright, Samantha Morton and Gemma Chan. Deadline reports that I Am Helen carries the same approach, looking at the pressures and expectations placed on women.

Cole plays a character called Steve. The drama also tackles toxic masculinity, the harmful ideas about how men should behave, and the damage those ideas can cause inside modern relationships.

Behind the camera, the series was produced by Me+You Productions. Krishnendu Majumdar and Dominic Savage are the producers. Sky Studios is a co-funder, which means it helps pay for the show alongside Channel 4. International sales, the job of selling the series to broadcasters in other countries, are handled by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.

Channel 4 first showed a still of Coughlan and Cole in June 2026, when it confirmed the drama's two-part format. The broadcaster has said I Am Helen will air later this year, and the trailer now gives viewers their first moving look at the show.

For viewers, the news is simple. A new two-part drama with a familiar name at the centre is on its way, and the trailer is the first real taste of it. Channel 4's schedule will decide when it arrives on screen.
