Lana Del Rey Gives $100 to Woman Seeking Help at Los Angeles Traffic Light

Lana Del Rey stopped to help a stranger at a red light in Los Angeles, and the moment was shared by her own hand. In an Instagram Story posted on Oct. 25, she shared a video of herself driving at night while listening to music, and Billboard reported the encounter that followed.
She was listening to Tate McRae's 2021 song "Rubberband" when she noticed someone outside her car window. The car was stopped at a light on Highland. A woman had put a sign on the glass saying she was trying to stay out of an abusive relationship.
Del Rey reached into her bag for $100 and passed it through her open window. She also gave the woman some words of caution: "Try to stay away. Be careful."
The song Del Rey was playing is not a stranger to the charts. "Rubberband" appears on Tate McRae's Too Young to Be Sad EP, a short release that gathers several tracks into one package rather than a full-length album. Both artists are known in the music business for large followings, and the story has spread quickly among fans of each.
Abusive relationships are a serious matter, and anyone in a similar situation can reach out to local emergency services or a domestic abuse helpline in their area for confidential support. Those services can offer safety planning and a route to shelter, whatever the circumstances.
For a pop star who sings about heartbreak and late-night drives, the moment carries its own kind of weight. A stranger found a way to ask for help, and a driver with a little cash on hand responded.
