A six-part comedy about two men trying to have a baby through a surrogate premieres on OUTtv in the United States and Canada on November 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is called One Baby, Please! It was created by and stars Karim Adam Ahmed and Adrian Neblett. A surrogate is a woman who carries a pregnancy for another person or couple, and that is the goal at the centre of the story.

The series follows Omar, an Egyptian Canadian, and Dieon, his Barbadian Canadian husband. The two are attempting to have a surrogate baby, and the comedy comes from the attempts going sideways along the way.

The show has been in the works for most of this year. OUTtv, a Vancouver-based LGBTQ+ broadcaster and streamer, greenlit it in January, according to Playback, a Canadian trade publication. To greenlight a show means a network has approved it for production. Playback described the project as a short-form comedy at that point.

Behind the camera, Anthony Q. Farrell is an executive producer. Kate Green is the series producer. Teresa Pavlinek is the story editor, and she previously worked as a writer and consulting producer on Schitt's Creek, the Canadian sitcom that won a run of awards. The show's own Instagram account lists Kendall Gender as appearing in Episode 1.

The production company's website describes Season One as six episodes, each about 15 minutes long. That makes the full season a little over an hour and a half of viewing.

Outside North America, the series will reach viewers through different services. It will stream through OUTtv's channels in Australia and New Zealand. In the UK and Ireland, it will be available on OUTflix. In the U.S. and Canada, it will also be available on Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube TV and Roku, in addition to the OUTtv premiere.

For viewers, the practical point is simple. Where you watch depends on where you live and which services you already pay for. The November 2 date is the first confirmed screening day in the announcement, and the release dates for the other territories have not been given.

Comedies about starting a family are not new on television. What is less common is a show built around two immigrant husbands from different countries, with a family-building storyline at its centre. The series puts that premise in front of audiences across several countries at once, on services that operate in very different ways.
