John Legend to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2027 Music Matters Gala
John Legend will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2027 Music Matters Awards Gala, according to Billboard, which published the news on 27 October 2026. The gala is scheduled for 21 May 2027 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Beverly Hills.
A lifetime achievement award honours a whole body of work rather than a single release. The Music Matters Awards Gala is organised by the Guitar Center Music Foundation, the charitable arm of the musical instrument retailer. The evening supports instrument grants, which are funds used to buy instruments, along with music education programmes for schools and nonprofit organisations across the country.
Legend will also take part in that work. He will help provide an instrument grant to one selected school or nonprofit, the Billboard report says. The choice of recipient has not been announced.
The foundation's gala page lists the schedule for the evening. Guests arrive on the carpet at 5:30 pm, and dinner and the awards run from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
The gala is still seven months away. Until then, the foundation's announcements will be the place to watch for the names of other honourees and the grant recipients, and for any changes to the schedule.
