Five films lead the nominations for the 36th Gotham Awards, each with four nods. The list was announced on October 27, 2026, and the leaders are "All of a Sudden," "Clarissa," "La Gradiva," "The Invite" and "Tender Loving Care," according to Variety.

The Gothams are awards for independent film. The Gotham Film & Media Institute, which runs them, announced nominations covering 42 feature films and 25 performances. Those nominations fall across 11 award categories. A feature is a full-length film, and a performance nomination recognises an actor's work.

Two of the leading films have been placed in the Best Feature category. "Clarissa" and "The Invite" were both nominated there, so both are in the running for the main film prize of the evening. The Best Feature category is the one that most people picture when they hear the word "Gothams."

Two other leaders are in the international category. "All of A Sudden" and "La Gradiva" were both nominated for Best International Feature. "Tender Loving Care" is also among the five films with four nods.

Nominees do not take home anything yet. Winners are named at the ceremony, which is scheduled for November 30, 2026, according to The Gotham Awards. That gives the nominated films a little over a month of attention before the envelopes are opened.

For the people who made these films, a nomination means their names go on a public list at a time when many awards are still being decided. It also means a short run of events and interviews in the weeks ahead, with the ceremony as the end point. For audiences, the list is a guide to what the institute has chosen to put in front of its voters this year.

The ceremony date falls on a Monday evening at the close of November, a few weeks before the year's big holiday releases begin to crowd the cinema calendar. Whichever films win, the nominations already give the five leaders a clear place on the independent-film map for this autumn.
