Atari has appointed Matt Hall as executive vice president of Atari Mobile, a newly created position. The company announced the appointment in New York on 27 October 2026, according to GamesPress.

Hall is the creator of Crossy Road, the mobile game in which players guide a character across endless lanes of traffic. He co-founded the Australian mobile studio Hipster Whale in 2014.

Atari acquired Hipster Whale in June for US$39.3 million, according to Video Games Chronicle. The studio's games include Pac-Man 256, Disney Crossy Road, Crossy Road Castle and Crossy Road Rush.

In the new role, Hall will lead Atari's mobile games business. He reports directly to Atari chief executive and chairman Wade Rosen. His remit also covers Atari's cross-platform strategy, which spans PC, console, mobile and web.

He is also tasked with making Atari's games portable across engines and platforms. A game engine is the software framework developers use to build a game, so portable games can move between systems without being rebuilt from scratch each time.

The first near-term date for a Hipster Whale title is 5 November, when Crossy Road Rush is set to release on Apple Arcade. Apple Arcade is Apple's subscription service for games, where a monthly fee gives access to a catalogue of titles.

For players, the appointment does not change any release date. The next concrete step is the Crossy Road Rush launch on 5 November, and the first public signs of Hall's cross-platform plans will show up in future Atari releases.
