Elmo Goes Full Miranda Priestly for Halloween

Elmo has swapped his usual Sesame Street look for the signature style of one of the best-known magazine editors on screen. A new video from the show shows the red Muppet dressed as Miranda Priestly, the character Meryl Streep played in The Devil Wears Prada.
Variety, which reported the video on 27 October 2026, says Sesame Street released it as a Halloween costume reveal. In one clip, Elmo as Priestly looks at a pumpkin and says, "Pumpkins. For fall. How groundbreaking." In another, he tells Cookie Monster about his blue fur: "Well, it's not cerulean. But, it works." Cerulean is a deep sky blue, and the joke rests on the film's dry, withering tone.
Elmo has dressed up for Halloween on the show before. Earlier segments saw him as a spaceman called "Galactic Stan," a pirate and a witch.
The 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada starred Streep alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. It was based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger. Weisberger once worked at Vogue, and Variety reports that she modelled Priestly on the magazine's longtime editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
The film's story has continued. Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci have all reprised their roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, a 20th Century Studios production. That return is why the character is still so widely recognised, and it helps explain why a children's show can use her look as a punchline without much explanation.
For viewers who know the film, the gag is simple. A Muppet known for his sunny, bouncy energy takes on a character known for her cool, clipped manner. For younger viewers, the video is a bright Halloween clip with a pumpkin, a blue friend and a voice that sounds nothing like Elmo's usual self.
