Model Irina Shayk stars in the holiday campaign for Donna Karan New York, the American fashion label. The campaign launches on Wednesday, 28 October, across all of the brand's social media channels.

Mert Alas photographed the campaign. Trey Laird handled the creative direction, which covers the overall look and concept of the images, and Jessica Diehl styled the clothes, choosing and arranging each outfit. WWD first reported the campaign.

According to WWD, the looks are dark and sophisticated, and they are designed to move from day to evening. Shayk wears a belted leather trench coat, a strapless leather sheath (a close-fitting dress with no straps), and a V-neck cocktail dress with sculptural gold hardware. She is also photographed in a full-length sequin gown worn under a long wool coat.

Accessories are part of the shoot too. Shayk appears with the black leather Bridgehampton Tote and the Cashmere clutch, a small bag that is carried by hand.

The holiday collection is sold at donnakaran.com and through select retailers around the world. A holiday collection is the range a label offers for the end-of-year season, which is often when shops and online buyers spend the most on clothing and accessories.

The campaign pairs a well-known model with a small team of credited creatives, and it puts the pieces in front of shoppers on the brand's own channels from the first day. The images show the clothes in use, which is the purpose of a campaign: to show what is for sale and how it is worn.
