Bing Gordon Says 10% of GTA VI Preview Viewers Buying Would Be "Mind-Blowing"

Bing Gordon says that if one in ten of the people who watched the Grand Theft Auto VI preview video bought the game, the result would be "mind-blowing." He made the comment on Yahoo Finance's Sozzi Unleashed, citing a preview audience of roughly 750 million people. Ten per cent of that audience would be about 75 million buyers.
Gordon is a co-founder of Electronic Arts and a partner at the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins. He also sits on the board of Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series. Take-Two has been led by chief executive Strauss Zelnick for about 15 years.
The game itself has a date. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, at US$79.99. Buyers of the digital preorder can start preloading, which means downloading the game before launch, from 12 November.
Gordon also gave a picture of what success would look like. He said it would mean people playing Grand Theft Auto on Thanksgiving Day, the US holiday in late November, after eating turkey, instead of watching football. It is a light way of describing a very large audience, and it fits his wider point about how many people the series already reaches.
For a sense of scale, Yahoo Finance reports that Grand Theft Auto V, the series' previous main entry, has generated nearly US$8 billion in lifetime retail revenue and sold more than 200 million units. Those figures are the retail totals for that game across its life so far, not a forecast for the new one.
Some projections go further. Experts have put opening-week sales for Grand Theft Auto VI at up to US$4.5 billion. No sales results for the new game exist yet, since it has not launched.
Gordon's comments were about the size of the audience and what it could mean in sales. What the game sells, and how many people play it, will become clear only after 19 November.
