Kevin Morby Shares Bandcamp-Only Single "Nursery Rhyme" With Lonnie Holley, Proceeds Going to Gun Safety Group

Kevin Morby has shared a new single, "Nursery Rhyme," featuring Lonnie Holley. The proceeds go to Everytown for Gun Safety, a US group that campaigns to reduce gun violence. The song is available only on Bandcamp, the online store where artists sell music directly to listeners.
Morby has described the song in strong terms. According to Pitchfork, he called "Nursery Rhyme" "far and away the darkest and most violent song I've ever written." He wrote it in the summer of 2025. It arrived weeks after a fatal school shooting in Bend, Oregon.
The release route was a deliberate choice. Morby said he put the song on Bandcamp to avoid the risk of it appearing in an algorithm, the automated system that decides what streaming services play next. He also did not want it to enter someone's head without their permission.
That means listeners have to seek the track out and press play themselves. Buying or streaming it on Bandcamp sends the money to the charity, and the single is not spread through the playlists and recommendation tools that drive most streaming listening.
Morby is known for his folk-leaning songwriting, and Lonnie Holley is a musician and visual artist whose work has been widely shown. Their pairing on a song about a shooting marks a sharp shift in tone for both of them, and the song's subject is hard to hear. Anyone who wants to listen can find it on Morby's Bandcamp page.
