Jim James Announces First Memoir, One Wonders, for April 2027

Jim James has announced his first memoir, One Wonders, which will be published on 13 April 2027. Pitchfork reported the announcement on 28 October 2026.

James, who is Grammy-nominated and a member of the band My Morning Jacket, will publish the book with Simon & Schuster. A memoir is a book in which the writer tells the story of their own life. The publisher's listing gives the book a length of 336 pages, and it will come out in hardcover, as an ebook and as an audiobook.

James will narrate the audiobook himself, so readers who prefer listening will hear the author read his own words. The book covers his upbringing in Louisville, Kentucky. It also covers his descent into alcoholism and depression, and his recovery from both.

Fans who want a signed copy can order one early. Carmichael's Bookstore in Louisville will offer autographed copies for preorder. James's official website also offers preorders and lists the release date as 13 April 2027.

The memoir follows a busy year for James. He released Wowed Out in August 2026, his first solo album in eight years. The title is his own word for the constant, media-driven overstimulation that many people feel from screens, news and noise.

The album arrived in pieces. Its lead single, "Come Again," was announced in June. Rolling Stone reported that the title track was shared as a single in July. "Lost Child," another solo song from the record, followed in August.

Publication is still more than five months away, so details such as the book's cover and any extracts have yet to be announced.
