Jim James has released the title track of his fifth solo album, "Wowed Out," alongside a music video — the second single ahead of an album due August 28 via ATO Records (Rolling Stone, Pitchfork).

The record is James's first solo album in eight years, following Uniform Distortion and Uniform Clarity, both released in 2018. He produced it himself, and its roots go back further than the sessions might suggest: the material grew out of music James originally recorded with composer Brian Reitzell for film-scoring projects in the early 2010s (Rolling Stone).

The album runs 10 tracks: "Baby Dear," "Hands On," "Come Again," "Lost Child," "Home (Green)," "We Love Our Life," "Wowed Out," "Whole Heart (Into It)," "Rewind It," and "Your Door." The first single, "Come Again," arrived in June with its own music video (Under the Radar).

James coined the phrase "wowed out" to describe the sensory overload of living amid constant stimulation. He cited Alice Coltrane's spiritual recordings as a guiding influence while making the album, drawn to music that feels like a journey without building toward an obvious grand finale (Rolling Stone).

On release day, August 28, James will play a solo acoustic headline set at the Song Summit 2026 in Park City, Utah. A full solo acoustic tour follows in late autumn, hitting Louisville's Kentucky Performing Arts Brown Theatre on November 28, Chicago's Vic Theatre on December 1, New York's Town Hall on December 3, Boston's Wilbur Theatre on December 6, Boulder Theater on December 8, and Los Angeles on December 11 (Rolling Stone).
