Taraji P. Henson will star in and executive produce Whiskey Matriarch, a new drama Amazon is developing, according to Deadline, which reported the news on 28 October 2026.

The show is still in development. That means it is being planned and written, and has not yet been fully committed to by Amazon. An executive producer is the person or company that oversees a show's creative and business side, and Henson takes on both the acting and that role.

The series began at Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, before it was sold to Amazon in a competitive process. Deadline says the show comes from three production companies: Blackmaled, TPH Entertainment and Third Road Production. Jamila Jordan executive produces through TPH Entertainment alongside Henson, and Dominique Telson executive produces through Blackmaled.

The series was created by Alesia Dangerfield, who will also write and executive produce. Attica Locke and Tembi Locke will write and executive produce as well. Malcolm D. Lee is set to direct and executive produce.

Henson is best known to many viewers for her work on screen, and this is her latest project with a major streaming service. Her name at the top of the cast list is often what helps a new show get noticed, but a title in development can still change before it reaches screens.

No premiere date, episode count or cast beyond Henson was given. Those details usually arrive later, once a platform confirms how many episodes it has ordered and when it plans to release them. For now, the news is simple: a new Amazon drama, built around a lead actor and a team of writers and producers, is taking shape.
