Modern Warfare 4 Changes Possum Revive in DMZ

Infinity Ward has changed how Possum works in DMZ, the mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 where squads search a map for loot and try to leave alive. The change came in a patch dated 28 October 2026, and Eurogamer reported on it on 29 October.
Possum lets a player who has been killed revive from a fully dead state, once per match. While a player is using it, they appear dead to others, and their body can be looted. The ability was meant to give a downed player another chance to extract from the match instead of losing the whole run.
Infinity Ward said the aim is to give a high-level operator a second chance. The studio also said Possum was being used as a combat mechanic, not a survival mechanic. Its tweaks are meant to stop players from jumping straight back into the fight they had just lost.
Under the patch, Possum cannot be activated while the team that killed you is still nearby. It also cannot be used until four minutes have passed since you were killed. Both limits apply together, so a player who is quickly found by the same squad has no revive available.
The same patch changes some guns. Assault rifles and submachine guns, the fast-firing weapons common in close fights, receive buffs, which means their strength has been increased. Two light machine guns, the APOC-338 and the FiNN, have been nerfed, meaning they have been weakened.
The update also adds Shipment, a map from the multiplayer side of the game, to a playlist that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 brings new maps, modes, events and rewards to both multiplayer and DMZ, according to Call of Duty's official blog. The season also links the game with Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale title that shares its base with the series.
DMZ gets a new map called X01. Season 1 adds new weapons and attachments, which are add-ons such as sights and grips that change how a gun handles. Players also get new operator skins, which change how a character looks, along with weapon blueprints, the saved builds that set a gun's attachments, and DMZ Survival Kits.
For players, the Possum change is the most direct shift. A revive that once could be used during a fight now needs the chase to end and the clock to run down first.
