Dundee moved above city rivals Dundee United into fourth place in the Scottish Premiership after beating Kilmarnock 3-1 at Dens Park on Wednesday evening. The Premiership is the top tier of Scottish football.

The win came four days after a 2-1 defeat at St Mirren, and Dundee said beforehand that they wanted to get back to winning ways (Dundee FC). Kilmarnock hit back early in the match. Joe Hugill scored a penalty to make it 1-1, but Dundee took control from there.

It was Dundee's 11th league game of the season, which completed a full first round of Premiership fixtures. They are now three points behind Hearts, who sit third, according to the BBC. Hearts also beat Dundee at Tynecastle, with winners arriving in the 84th and 96th minutes. Dundee opened their campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Celtic Park, the home of Celtic, who were the reigning champions.

At home, Dundee have beaten Motherwell, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, and drawn 2-2 with Rangers. Only Hibernian have taken three points from Dens Park this season. Away from home, Dundee won 2-0 at Tannadice, the ground of Dundee United.

Manager Steven Pressley took charge in June 2025, replacing Tony Docherty. He led Dundee to eighth place in the Premiership last season. Before Dundee, he managed Falkirk and Coventry City.

The squad has been stretched. Striker Simon Murray was seriously injured at the start of the campaign. Tony Yogane has left to join Aberdeen, and Cam Congreve has returned to his parent club, Swansea City. Dundee have brought in Owen Bevan on loan from Bournemouth, and Bradley Fink on loan from Wycombe Wanderers. Fink has scored four goals in six appearances. Joe Westley scored nine goals for Dundee last season.

Next up, Dundee are due to face Falkirk on 31 October, and their listed fixture after that is a trip to St Johnstone on 7 November.

Fourth place is a long way from the top, with Celtic and Rangers well clear at the head of the table. But a home win that answers a defeat, with the penalty equaliser dealt with and a second half to win, is the kind of result a club can build on. Dens Park has been a hard place to visit this season, and Dundee have made it that way.
