Darren Aronofsky to Receive Director Award at Camerimage in Toruń

Darren Aronofsky will receive the Director Award at the 34th Camerimage International Film Festival in Toruń, Poland, Variety reported on 29 October. The festival runs from 7 to 14 November 2026.
Camerimage is a festival that celebrates cinematography, the craft of the camera crew who decide how a film looks, from the lighting to the lens. Its main competition gives out the Golden Frog for outstanding cinematography. The festival's own listings show Aronofsky as a guest in 2010, 2019 and 2026.
Much of Aronofsky's work has been shot by cinematographer Matthew Libatique. The two first worked together on "Pi", Aronofsky's feature debut from 1998. That film also won him the directing award at the Sundance Film Festival the same year. The festival's archive records that he and Libatique were later honoured together with a special director-cinematographer duo award, one of the festival's past honours.
His later films have travelled widely. "The Wrestler", a 2008 drama starring Mickey Rourke, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. "Black Swan", released in 2010, earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Natalie Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in it. In 2022, "The Whale" earned Brendan Fraser his first Academy Award.
More recently, Aronofsky directed "Caught Stealing", a 2025 crime thriller starring Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz and Regina King. His earlier "Requiem for a Dream" remains one of the titles most often listed alongside his name.
The Camerimage Market, the festival's trade side where buyers and sellers meet, is scheduled for 8 to 13 November in Toruń. The TUMULT Foundation is listed as one of the festival's organisers. The festival's main programme, with its competition and awards, sits alongside that market for the full week.
