Heather Tom Could Set a Daytime Emmy Record on Friday

Heather Tom could win her seventh Daytime Emmy on Friday, which would give her the most wins by an actress in daytime television history, Variety reports.
The award is part of the 53rd annual Daytime Emmys. Tom is currently tied with Erika Slezak, who also has six wins. All six of Slezak's came in the lead actress category for the soap One Life to Live, in 1984, 1986, 1992, 1995, 1996 and 2005.
Tom plays Katie Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful, the CBS soap opera. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which runs the awards, lists her among this year's nominees. She is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series. It is her first nomination in that category since she won it in 2020.
She is also nominated as part of the writing staff of The Bold and the Beautiful for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series. Writing team awards go to the group of writers who work on a show, not to a single person.
Tom's earlier wins span three different acting categories. She won Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for The Young and the Restless in 1993 and 1999. She won Supporting Actress for The Bold and the Beautiful in 2011. Then she won Lead Actress in 2012, 2013 and 2020. No other performer has won in all three of the younger, supporting and lead categories.
The count is simple to follow. Tom has six wins now. A seventh on Friday would move her past Slezak and into sole possession of the record. Winners are announced at the ceremony itself, so the result will be known only once the envelopes are opened.
For soap fans, the moment is also a reminder of how long these two careers have run. Tom's first Daytime Emmy came more than 30 years ago, in 1993. Slezak's first came in 1984.
