Leicester Tigers captain Ollie Chessum has signed a new multi-year contract to stay at Welford Road, the club confirmed on Thursday. The England lock will remain with the Premiership club, England's top domestic league, for the years ahead.

Chessum plays in the second row, the tall forwards who compete for the ball thrown in at the lineout, the set-piece where players are lifted to catch it. He has made 88 appearances for Leicester since graduating from the club's academy, the youth development system that feeds the first team. He was named club captain ahead of the 2025/26 season, and he was part of the side that won the Premiership title in 2022.

The news comes less than a week after another key player made the same choice. Jack van Poortvliet, a scrum-half who links the forwards to the backs, committed his future to the club earlier this month. Leicester Tigers have been steadily confirming their squad for next season.

Head coach Geoff Parling now has a senior group that has been locked in for the coming campaign. For a club, keeping a captain and a set-piece forward in place means the core of the pack can stay together through the season.

The BBC reported the deal, which follows a run of extensions across the squad. Leicester have not, at the time of writing, said how long the contract runs beyond the phrase "multi-year."

For supporters, the message is simple: the captain is staying put. Chessum is still only in his early twenties and has years of rugby ahead of him at the club where he came through.
