Apple's New MacBook Pro Adds a Touchscreen for the First Time

Apple has unveiled a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, the first laptop the company has made with one. Users can now tap and touch the screen directly, as well as use the keyboard and trackpad, according to Dezeen, which reported the launch on 30 October 2026.
Apple says the screen is the best of any laptop. The company describes it as a PROLED XDR display, the name it gives its screen technology. The touch sensor is built into the panel itself, rather than being a separate layer stuck on top. Apple also redesigned the hinge, the joint that connects the screen to the keyboard base, so it stays steady when the screen is touched.
Inside are M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the processors that run the machine's programs. Buyers can choose up to 128 gigabytes of memory, the short-term space a computer uses to keep several apps open at once. Storage goes up to 16 terabytes, where files, photos and videos are kept. Apple says the battery lasts up to 24 hours on a single charge.
The new model comes in two sizes. The 14-inch version weighs three pounds, about 1.4 kilograms, and the 16-inch version weighs four pounds, about 1.8 kilograms. Both are measured by screen size across the diagonal, from one corner to the opposite one.
The MacBook Pro goes on sale from 6 November. Prices start at £2,899 and rise to £4,499, depending on the model and the options chosen.
For people who have used a laptop only with a mouse or trackpad, a touchscreen is a new way to work. It also means the machine can be used like a tablet for some tasks, though Apple has not said which ones it expects people to try first. Anyone shopping in the coming weeks will be able to see the touch feature, the weights and the price range side by side.
