Mariah Carey has again hinted at an unreleased grunge album, saying in a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" on 30 October 2026 that the record is "#notyet." An Ask Me Anything, or AMA, is a session where people post questions and the guest answers them in writing. Carey held hers to mark 25 years since her album Glitter came out.

She said she is asked about the record about once a week. Her answer to the question was "#notyet (this is a hint!)." Billboard reported the exchange.

The project has a history that predates the hint. In her 2020 memoir, Carey wrote that she recorded a secret rock album called Someone's Ugly Daughter while she was working on Daydream. The songs were credited to a group called Chick, with her friend Clarissa Dane on lead vocals. In 2024, People reported that Carey had found the original recording of the 1995 grunge album.

Daydream was a major release that year. Its 1995 run included six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the US chart that ranks albums by sales and streams. Glitter, her 2001 album, was the soundtrack to the film of the same name. It debuted at No. 7 on the same chart.

For the anniversary, Carey has put out a deluxe edition of Glitter. A deluxe edition is an expanded release with extra tracks, and this one adds several bonus songs. In the AMA she named "Lead The Way" as one of her favourites to write, record and produce on the album.

Some of the answers were lighter. Asked about a possible collaboration with Lenny Kravitz, Carey wrote: "I love Lenny too… Lenny if you're seeing this, call me!" She also said she currently has four Jack Russell dogs.

For fans waiting on the grunge project, the AMA offers no release date. Carey's only stated position is the one she gave in the hashtag: not yet.
