Heidi Klum debuted a severed-hand costume at her annual Halloween party in New York on Oct. 31. The costume was modeled on her own left hand, and it was big. The New York Times described it as an 8-foot version of that hand.

The details were grisly and carefully made. Klum's hand had long red nails and a thumb ring. She wore her engagement ring and wedding band on the costume's fingers. The ring finger also carried a tattoo of her husband's name, Tom Kaulitz, and the palm showed lines and veins. ABC News reported that the top of the hand showed dangling ligaments and tendons.

Klum did not walk alone. She was accompanied by helpers in blood-stained hazmat suits, the white protective gear often seen at crime scenes and hospitals. Getting Klum into the costume took about five to six hours, according to the same wire report.

Kaulitz, the musician who performs with the band Tokio Hotel, did not attend the party. He was on tour.

The party also marks a milestone. It has been 25 years since Klum began hosting the event. Her costumes have long been part of the draw. In 2008, she dressed as Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and destruction, with multiple arms and dangling heads. In 2022, she wore a slithering worm suspended from a fishing line. The Associated Press reported in 2024 that she and singer Janelle Monáe both wore E.T. costumes that year, with Klum's face placed in the creature's neck so she could see. For Halloween 2025, she came as Medusa, in green scales and squirming snakes.

This year's hand was a different kind of build. Most of her past looks were creatures or goddesses. This one was a body part, and a real one, copied from life. It joins a long run of costumes that take hours to put on and only a few minutes to see.
