Leinster Rout Connacht 50-5 in Galway as Carbery Stars

Leinster thrashed Connacht 50-5 in Galway on Friday, scoring seven tries in a United Rugby Championship (URC) match at Dexcom Stadium. The URC is the cross-border league that pits Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Italian and South African teams against each other, and this result will be felt in the table.
The visitors' fly-half, Joey Carbery, was the standout. BBC Sport reports that he scored 20 points, from six conversions (the goal kick after a try, worth two points) and a penalty (a kick awarded for a foul, worth three).
Leinster's tries came from McCarthy, Larmour, Lawlor, Deegan, Carbery, Mangan and Gunne. The scoring was spread across the team, with the ball moving quickly through the hands. Connacht's only try came from Dave Heffernan, a fine moment for the home side on a day that otherwise belonged to the visitors.
The gap was already wide at the break. Leinster led 21-5 at half-time, and they kept the pressure on after the interval. The contest for the ball on the floor after a tackle, known as the ruck, went their way often enough to keep Connacht pinned in their own half for long spells.
The result lifts Leinster to third in the URC table. Connacht remain eighth. For a league where a handful of points can separate teams in the standings, a margin like this one matters far beyond the scoreline, because it changes how each side's season looks.
Carbery's afternoon was built on accuracy as much as attacking play. Kicking from the tee is a skill that can decide close games, and on this occasion it helped build a lead that Connacht could not close. Finlay Bealham was among the Connacht players who made tackles on him during the match.
For Connacht, the heavy defeat in front of their own supporters will sting. Their next task is to bounce back and show they can compete over a full 80 minutes. For Leinster, it is a result that boosts confidence and keeps them firmly in the chase at the top of the table.
