Sony's Resident Evil reboot stayed on top of the mainland China box office for a fourth straight weekend. It took RMB28.5 million, or $4.3 million, over Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, according to Variety. Since opening on Oct. 5, the film has grossed $71.3 million in China.

The start was much bigger. Screen Daily reported an estimated $40.6 million opening in China, and that launch sent the film back to the top of the global box office.

Behind it, Traces of Justice came second with $3.9 million in its fifth weekend. Its total since its Oct. 1 release is $98.5 million. Mr. & Mrs. Pardon was fourth with $2 million, taking its cumulative gross to $59 million.

Fifth place went to Once Upon a Time in the Middle East, which earned $900,000 in its twelfth weekend. Its run in China now totals $356.9 million since Aug. 11.

The surprise of the chart may be the original John Wick, which debuted in third place with $2.3 million over its three-day opening weekend. The 2014 film has had a long road to Chinese screens. China Film Group, which had told original rights buyer Huayi Bros. in 2014 that the film was too violent, handled its China release. Regulators rejected it in 2015.

Later entries have fared better. John Wick: Chapter 4 and the spinoff Ballerina both reached Chinese cinemas in 2025. Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 have yet to be released there.

The weekend as a whole brought in $18.2 million across mainland China. Year to date, the market has taken $4.73 billion in 2026, a fall of 29.0% from the same point in 2025, according to the same Variety report.

For moviegoers in China, the next question on the calendar is when the two middle John Wick films will arrive. No date has been announced so far.
