Travis Touchdown is coming back. Goichi Suda, the head of the Japanese studio Grasshopper Manufacture and known to fans as Suda51, says the studio is planning something to mark the 20th anniversary of No More Heroes next year.

According to Video Games Chronicle, Suda said: "We're planning to deliver something special, so please look forward to it. Travis Touchdown is definitely coming back!" Travis is the central character of the series, a hit man who fights his way up a ranking of assassins.

Grasshopper plans to work on the project with publisher Marvelous Entertainment. A publisher is the company that pays for, markets and sells a game, often working alongside the developer that builds it.

The original game came out in Japan on December 6, 2007, and reached Western players in 2008. A 20th anniversary of the Japanese launch falls in December 2027, although no release date for the new project has been given.

Suda did not say what form the project will take. It could be a sequel, a new game that continues the story. It could be a remaster, an updated version of an existing game with sharper visuals, or a remake, a game rebuilt from the ground up. It could also be something that is not a game at all.

The studio has also officially regained its independence from its former parent company, NetEase Games. Grasshopper now stands on its own again, and the anniversary plans are the first thing Suda has said publicly about the series since then.

For fans, the most useful detail is the confirmation itself. Suda's words are short, but they settle the question of whether Travis is returning. Everything else, from the format to the platforms and the launch window, is still to be announced.
