Shantel VanSanten is coming back to CBS's FBI for one night, and she is playing Special Agent Nina Chase again. Deadline reported the return on November 2, 2026.

Her appearance is in Season 9, Episode 7, titled "Posterity." The episode airs on Monday, November 16, from 8:00 to 9:00 PM Eastern and Pacific time. A one-night guest role means she appears in that episode only, and is not returning to the regular cast.

Nina has a long history with the show. She first joined the team in Season 4 as a short-term helper while another agent recovered from exposure to sarin gas. She became a series regular, a main cast member, and later left that role in Season 5, episode 6, "Double Bind." She also brought the character to the spin-off FBI: Most Wanted.

Her most recent storyline on the main show came in Season 8, in the episode "Confetti." In it, Nina and her partner Stuart Scola get engaged and then marry at City Hall. Scola is played by John Boyd, who is a series regular, and Boyd shares the screen with VanSanten in the new episode.

In "Posterity," the team investigates the murder of an online influencer. Nina works with them to catch a man on the Most Wanted list before he disappears. The episode was written by Jake Tinker and directed by Milena Govich.

For viewers who followed the couple from that City Hall wedding onward, the episode offers a return to the pair on screen. It is a single night, so the show's regular schedule carries on around it.
