West Side Story returns to the National Theatre with 10,000 tickets for under-25s

The National Theatre will stage a new production of West Side Story in its Olivier Theatre from 5 November 2027 to 12 February 2028. Ten thousand tickets across the run are reserved for under-25s, priced from £10 to £30.
The show is directed by Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell. The pair previously worked together on an award-winning revival of Death of a Salesman (London Theatre). Their team includes set designer Miriam Buether and costume designer Nicky Gillibrand. Nicholas Skilbeck is music director, with Cat Beveridge as associate music director.
Julio Monge will reproduce and adapt Jerome Robbins' original choreography from the 1957 Broadway production. Monge was also an artistic collaborator and consultant on Steven Spielberg's 2021 film version. Luca Dinardo is associate choreographer. Sam Lyon-Behan is fight director, planning the stage fights, and Ingrid Mackinnon is intimacy director, who arranges scenes involving close physical contact and makes sure performers are supported. Mumba Dodwell is associate director.
The cast is being chosen by casting directors Bryony Jarvis-Taylor and Naomi Downham. No cast names have been announced so far.
Tickets go on general sale at midday on 12 November. The press night, the first evening critics are invited to see the show, is set for 25 November. Previews, the performances before press night, begin on 5 November.
The National also unveiled a first-look poster. The photography is by Adam Fussell, and the art direction and design came from the National Theatre Creative Studio, the in-house design team.
The under-25 allocation is the detail most likely to matter to younger theatregoers. Ten thousand seats across a run of more than three months is a large share of the house for a single production. Anyone under 25 who wants to see the show will need to watch the box office from 12 November.
