Pierce Brosnan Backs Callum Turner as Next James Bond

Pierce Brosnan says he can see Callum Turner playing James Bond, putting a name already in the frame for 007 behind a former co-star. Variety reported his comments on 3 November 2026, drawn from a new interview with Vanity Fair.
Brosnan played Bond in four films, from 1995 to 2002. He and Turner worked together on The Only Living Boy in New York, a 2017 film. Brosnan praised Turner's voice, physique, screen presence and longevity, and said he could see him taking the role.
Brosnan stopped short of naming a winner. He said every man on the current shortlist is an actor he admires. Whoever plays the part next, he said, he wishes them the best of life, strength and courage.
He has been hinting at a surprise for some time. In September, he said the next Bond would likely be 'someone that none of us know about,' and that there were 'lots of good hats in the ring.'
Turner is not the only name in contention. Variety reports that Jack Lowden, the actor known for Slow Horses, is the other frontrunner. Josh O'Connor and Jacob Elordi have been mentioned in earlier reports. Collider reported on 22 October that Lowden, Turner and O'Connor are among the actors testing in the final stage of casting.
Final auditions are believed to be taking place in London, according to Variety. The screen tests are the last step before a decision, and they usually take place once a shortlist has been narrowed.
Brosnan also said he is excited about Denis Villeneuve's take on the franchise, and he expects audiences will be blown away. He told Vanity Fair he is eagerly waiting for the announcement of the next Bond. No casting decision has been made public yet.
