Producer Milena Rimassa is launching Catalytic Films, a new independent company that will make, finance and sell films. The company makes its debut at the American Film Market, where it will bring a four-feature sales slate, according to Deadline.

A sales slate is the list of films a company offers to distributors, the businesses that release movies in cinemas and on streaming services. The headline title is Something's In There, a supernatural horror thriller starring James Franco. Joel Harber wrote and directed it.

The story follows Billy Hobbs, an aspiring filmmaker who takes a night-watchman job at a film studio. There, strange sights, sounds and deaths blur the line between horror films and reality. Peter Gold and Elsie Hewitt also star, alongside Raoul Max Trujillo, Rob Moran, Paul Ben-Victor, Jayson Warner Smith and Alexander Kane.

Boundaries was directed by Kirandeep Karnati. It follows mostly South Asian women in suburban California who form a cricket team.

Paper Flowers was directed by Mahesh Pailoor and produced by Asit Vyas. Its cast includes Kapil Talwalkar, Olivia Liang, Karan Soni, Tom Everett Scott, Faran Tahir and Meera Simhan. The film has earned recognition at the Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Sedona and Chandler film festivals. Viewers in North America can watch it on the Angel Studios streaming service. Catalytic Films holds the licence for the rest of the world, meaning it controls where and how the film is shown outside North America in return for a fee paid to the film's makers.

The fourth title, We Are Never Alone, was directed and scored by Michel Pascal and produced by Stephen Powers. It features Michael Beckwith, Gabriella Wright and Temple Hayes.

Catalytic Films has also formed a strategic alliance with Visual Narrative Films, the company led by Unni Rav. Under the arrangement, Rimassa will serve as executive producer across the Visual Narrative slate. An executive producer is usually the person who helps secure money and oversees a project, rather than running the shoot day to day. Catalytic will handle global distribution and international sales for those productions.

The company describes Rimassa as a producer, media strategist and global distribution executive, according to the Catalytic Films website.

The American Film Market is one of the film industry's main trading events. Sales companies and buyers meet there to decide which films will reach screens around the world, often long before the films are finished.
