Netflix has ordered a full series of Prep, based on the novel by Curtis Sittenfeld. The order is a straight-to-series deal, meaning Netflix has committed to a whole season without first shooting a pilot, the single episode a network often films to test a idea. Variety reported the order on 3 November 2026.

The story follows Lee Fiora, a scholarship student at Ault, a prestigious boarding school in New England. Over her high school years she works through friendship, crushes and the gap between her background and that of her classmates. Prep is Sittenfeld's debut novel, according to Netflix's Tudum site.

Nicole Taylor will adapt the book for television. She will also serve as showrunner, the lead writer who runs the show day to day, and as an executive producer. Taylor created One Day, the Netflix series starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod, which aired on the service in 2024.

Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor will also executive produce for Gloria Sanchez Productions. An executive producer is a credit given to people who oversee and support a project, often without writing or directing it. Sittenfeld is an executive producer on the series too, so the author stays involved in how her book is adapted.

The book has a longer road to the screen than this order. In 2016, Deadline reported that HBO was developing Prep as a comedy series. That project did not reach air, and the rights later moved to Netflix's drama version.

Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date, episode count or cast. For a series like this, the next signals will be the casting announcements and the start of production, which is when a script becomes a set with a crew, a schedule and a finish line. Until then, the news is simple: a book about a girl at a school where she does not quite fit now has a home at Netflix, and a writer and producers to build it.
