Guild Wars Afterlife Heads to PC and Mobile on 13 January 2027

Guild Wars is getting its first major update in nearly 20 years. ArenaNet, working with co-developer 2Weeks, has announced Guild Wars Afterlife, due for release on 13 January 2027 on PC and mobile.
According to Eurogamer, the last large batch of new content for the original online game arrived with the Eye of the North expansion in August 2007. The studio released Guild Wars Reforged, an enhanced version of the game, late last year. A new dungeon was added in April, before this announcement.
Afterlife takes players through the Mists of Tyria to a region called Xotecha. The update adds a new storyline, new characters to talk to, and new areas to explore. A dungeon, a story-driven area that players fight through, is the centrepiece. This dungeon changes shape after each run, so no two visits look quite the same.
The combat side changes too. Players draft new skills for each run, building a skill bar, the row of abilities a character can use in battle. That bar is different every time someone takes on the dungeon.
ArenaNet's store announcement says prepurchase is open now. Players can reserve a copy before release. The game will launch on PC through Steam, and on mobile through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Pricing is set at US$29.99, €29.99 and £25.99. Anyone who pre-orders before 13 January receives a 20 percent discount, which brings the US price down to US$23.99. The 20 percent figure is the publisher's own offer, and it runs until the release date.
For longtime players, the update is a return to a world that has been quiet on the big-content front for a long time. For newcomers, the announcement is a chance to start with a fresh storyline rather than years of history. Either way, the release date and the price are now fixed, and the next step is the game itself.
Guild Wars Afterlife is an add-on for a game that has been running for two decades, which makes it a different kind of launch from a brand-new title. The studio has not said how much of the content will be free for existing players, so that question remains open for now.
