Keeley Hawes has joined the second season of ITV's thriller Gone, playing a paediatric surgeon, a specialist who operates on children. Deadline reported the casting on 4 November 2026.

Hawes will play Ruth Manning, described as a pre-eminent and devoted surgeon working at Makeway Hospital in Bristol. The series is set in the city. Hawes is a three-time BAFTA nominee.

Eve Myles is also back. She returns as DS Annie Cassidy, the detective at the centre of the show, according to TV Guide. In the new run, Ruth Manning comes into Annie's sights over a possible hidden truth about historical crimes.

The first season starred David Morrissey as Michael Polly, a local headmaster. Polly became the prime suspect when his wife, Sarah, disappeared. Season 2 is again written by creator George Kay, who is also an executive producer alongside Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford.

The series is produced by Observatory Pictures and New Pictures, in association with Banijay Rights. Banijay Rights handles sales of Gone. The show is partly inspired by the book To Hunt a Killer.

To help with the police work on screen, the production has two consultants. Julie Mackay is a former Detective Superintendent, a senior officer in the police. Robert Murphy is ITV's Crime Correspondent, a reporter who covers crime stories for the broadcaster. Their role is to advise the writers on how the investigations would really run.

For Hawes and Myles, the season adds a new storyline around a surgeon and a detective, with the two characters now on opposite sides of a historical case.
