A24 has finished filming its movie adaptation of Elden Ring, the fantasy video game, according to Variety. The film stars Kit Connor and is directed by Alex Garland. It carries a $200 million price tag, which is the budget for making it.

The wrap comes in a busy year for the independent studio. A24 passed $500 million at the domestic box office for the first time in 2026, Variety reported. Domestic means the United States and Canada. Much of that total came from Backrooms, a horror film that became a breakout hit, and You Can See Everything, a documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim about Elizabeth Holmes, the former head of the blood-testing company Theranos.

The studio was founded and is led by David Fenkel and Daniel Katz. In 2021 it hired J.B. Lockhart, formerly chief financial officer of the NBA, to help the company grow. Its other senior figures include chief operating officer Matt Bires, global TV head Ravi Nandan and chief marketer Graham Retzlik.

Money has also been moving around the company. Its most recent fundraise came in mid-2024, when Josh Kushner's firm Thrive Capital invested at a $3.5 billion valuation, the total value placed on the company. The Hollywood Reporter said at the time that the investment would let A24 keep pushing into commercial films and shows. A24 has also struck a deal for the film and TV rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and it has bought the Cherry Lane Theater in New York, Variety reported.

Variety has also reported that A24 and The New York Times expressed interest in buying Letterboxd, the film-rating website, in a deal expected to value it at more than $300 million. Interest is not the same as a signed sale, and no deal has been announced.

The wider market is also climbing. Reuters reported that Hollywood's summer 2026 box office passed $4.6 billion, and analysts estimated the full-year domestic total could top $10 billion. Bloomberg reported that global ticket sales in 2026 were up 15% on the year before and on course for the best annual total since 2019.

For moviegoers, the practical question is when films arrive. A24 has not announced a release date for the Elden Ring film. Filming is now complete, and the next steps for the picture, from editing to marketing, are still ahead.
