Five people, including two children, were rescued in Kiribati after three months drifting at sea, according to NBC News and The Washington Post.

The group had disappeared months earlier during what was intended to be a one-hour trip by skiff, a small open boat, in the Federated States of Micronesia, according to MassLive. The people were found alive after months without contact with family or authorities.

Villagers pulled the five survivors from the water off Fanning Island in Kiribati, according to TRT World.

A small boat set out for a short journey and did not return, followed by a drift that lasted about three months before the group reached land. Kiribati is an island nation, and its outlying islands are the places where boats in distress are most often found.
