JioStar is ending Koffee With Karan, the celebrity chat show that has run for 22 years. The ninth and final season will stream on JioHotstar, the company's streaming service.

Alok Jain, who oversees JioStar's Hindi and English entertainment business, told Deadline that the company chose to end the show while it is still loved and at the top of its game. He said the aim was to close it on its own terms rather than carry on past the point that feels right. Jain added that the show has become part of popular culture and has delivered consistently for advertising partners.

The programme began in 2004 on the Star World network. Jain said it ran for eight seasons and 161 episodes. Karan Johar, the show's host, told Yahoo Entertainment in September that the decision was emotional and personal. Bollywood Hungama reported at the time that the final season was due to premiere on 14 October 2026.

Johar's work does not end with the show. He is still attached to Student of the Year, a TV spin-off of the 2012 film, which is also on JioHotstar.

The rest of JioStar's unscripted slate is being shaped differently. Unscripted means shows without a script, such as reality series, game shows and talk formats. Jain told Deadline that the company wants a roughly 50-50 split between international and homegrown formats in its new pipeline. A format is an idea that is sold and adapted for other countries. Big Brother and Fear Factor were both redeveloped for Indian audiences, becoming Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi.

Bigg Boss is now in its 20th local run and is expanding into several language versions. Deadline reported that the show recorded 9.32 billion votes and 43 million live chats last year. JioStar's locally developed unscripted titles include Laughter Chefs, MTV Hustle and Pati Patni Aur Panga. MTV Splitsvilla is in its sixteenth season.

JioStar's own figures for its Hindi unscripted shows come from a coffee-table book, JioStar – Home of Unscripted: The Billion Emotions Engine, which the company released in October. The company says those shows reached 1 billion people, roughly two in every three Indians, and recorded 460 billion minutes of watch time. Jain has also said that five hours of reality programming generates around 20 hours of creator content, meaning clips and posts made by fans and online creators.

For regular viewers, the change is simple. The next season of Koffee With Karan is the last one, and the chat show's long run ends there.
